Faces of the 54th

Joseph A Palmer served admirably in the 54th Massachusetts. Born in Stark County, Ohio in 1840, Palmer worked as a barber until he enlisted at twenty-three years old. A member of Company K, Palmer saw action at the Battle of Sol Legare, the Second Battle of Fort Wanger, the Battle of Olustee, and the Battle of Honey Hill. Wounded twice, he survived the war and eventually moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Palmer died in 1924 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
