Drummer Miles Moore served with Company H of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment. Born in Pennsylvania, Moore had been working as a laborer in Elmira, New York when he enlisted around age 16. He served at the Battles of Fort Wagner, Olustee, and Honey Hill. Moore mustered out of the 54th Regiment in August 1865. He later went on to serve with the Buffalo Soldiers in 1867, joining the 39th US Infantry as a member of the band.
