Boston Supporters Making of the Memorial Supporting the 54th

Boston abolitionist and caterer Joshua Bowen Smith supported and fed Civil War soldiers who passed through the city. After the Battle of Fort Wagner, Smith advocated for the creation of a memorial to honor Colonel Robert Gould Shaw.
