Arriving at Folly Island in 1863, the 54th Massachusetts Regiment used Folly Island as a camp and staging ground for the later assaults on James and Morris Islands.1

This photograph is included in Captain Luis Emilio’s collection of photographs related to the regiment, now at the Massachusetts Historical Society.
