Legacy of the 54th Remembering the Regiment

Item contributed by National Parks of Boston

A grand military parade through Boston in 1917 featured veterans from past wars to inspire the “boys of 1917” as Americans began heading off to fight in World War I. M. Jameson, a veteran of the 54th, participated in the parade, until he came to the Memorial. There, he stopped, saluted the memorial to his fallen colonel and fellow soldiers, and took a seat. “The parade was over so far as he was concerned. He wanted to go no further.”
